This blog is a convenient placeholder to put my thoughts about the plans for our local public library in Castle Donington
To recap it was announced that as part of Leicestershire County council's reduction in spending the library department would need to save 800,000 per year from the current £5.6 million budge
As part of this process, the council started a consultation exercise where the plan is to reduce the library network by shutting or placing into community ownership all but the 16 largest public libraries.
To support this the council produced a number of statistics showing various performance measures of all the libraries under their direct control.
This information can be accessed here
However if you go to the link you will instantly find one problem. All the information has been separated out per library making very difficult to compare and analyse the data. This is important because the council appears to be using only one metric to decide which libraries stay under council funding (The visitors numbers)
Therefore I have set myself the task to collate the data into a spreadsheet which will allow me and anyone else to access the data and do there own analysis.
This blog will also be used to decide whether the metrics used are the most suitable and what alternatives there are.
